This is not the kind of movie you can dim the lights and have the kids fall asleep to. This movie is most definitely for adults and contains language and themes that are certainly best for an older audience. Because of the nature of the film, parents are best to wait until their teenagers are old enough to make their own decisions, like maybe after they’ve been exposed to films of an adult nature. The adjectives used in the movie description definitely seem to fit the style of dark comedies and crime foreign films that are very much geared toward the urban Indian youth. If you are sensitive to drug references, you might want to skip this one, but the younger audience might really like some of the themes of the juxtaposition of crime and sci-fi with everyday struggles.

This movie will appeal to people who enjoy character-driven comedies that go beyond the normal, because the main characters are relatable yet aimless, and the situations they find themselves in are bizarre. Stewart’s emphasis on the subtle will fit her role to a tee. She’ll have the chance to display her extreme talent in bringing deadpan wit to the role and give the character vulnerability. Shawkat has the perfect balance of convention to Stewart’s eccentricity, making her the perfect foil to the duo. Their chemistry will determine whether their best friend relationship can pull of both a compelling storyline and funny antics to avoid the annoying best friend syndrome; a balance that I think they can achieve.

The inclusion of LaKeith Stanfield is a great sign. He’ll probably be to the lead cast as a strong supporting castmember, stealing scenes. Stanfield has the unique, often enigmatic energy whether he’s a comedy or drama character. In the melding of crime, comedy, and sci-fi, he will probably have the role that is important to unraveling the mayhem or the prominent role of the quirky humors. With Dylan Meyer’s inspired, fresh directing style coupled with the cast, the performances are likely to be wacky in an entertaining way. The casts’ performances will express with wacky entertainment and provide the escalating absurdity with funny antics. This cast will deserve and be entertaining for most people to watch.

Where the Plot Might Falter or Flourish

When it comes to genre-bending and casting, this film shines. Unfortunately, the ambitious nature of this film carries risks too. Blending crime, comedy, and sci-fi is tricky and if the elements of this combination don't properly meld, the entire structure will collapse. While the film's jokes that are founded in the 'bong rip to bong rip' lifestyle, might entertain some, the majority of the audience probably won't appreciate the jokes. When the characters are apathetic, aimless, and directionless, audience members will often lose the will to cheer for these protagonists when the stakes rise. The crime of mistaken identity within the framework of a sci-fi element is so far fetched that the audiences will need some convincing in order to keep up with what is happening. Many audience members will feel that sci-fi was shoehorned in. These audience members appreciate a narrative with some grounding.

At 1 hour and 39 minutes, the film already feels rushed, but it needs to stay fast paced. It is easy to cross the line from fast paced to chaotic and from there it is easy for the audience to completely lose the narrative, especially in a film with this many plot lines and such low development of the character arcs. There is a lot of potential for the audience to become unhappy and frustrated with the film. The Players' ability to create a vast and cohesive film is the strongest aspect of the film, rather than three separate movies stitched together.

"The Wrong Girls" knows its audience. These are the people who appreciate the balance of a story that cannot be quantified, the audience who enjoys bending genres, and of course the audience who enjoys some structural Chaos in their comedy. This film will not provide the pleasant, multi-generational entertainment for Indian families, but for certain members of the family it will provide a much more enjoyable escape from reality. If you are the type of person who loves to watch something so bold, exciting and uncomfortably funny, then definitely check this out! Just remember to send the younger family members to bed first.
